Marisa Roman

For my last blog post, I wanted to share my favorite part of the semester. By far, my favorite class was when we skyped Marisa Roman. I had really enjoyed watching Marisa play Veronica and Maria Suspiro in Cosita Rica, so when Dr. A told us she was going to skype with our class, I was looking forward to seeing what she was like. Our conversation with Marisa completely exceeded my expectations. There are few actresses in America who I admire because of both their looks AND personality. Marisa definitely has both. Her hilarious sense of humor, natural confidence and welcoming personality made our whole class fall in love with her.

Throughout our conversation with her, I appreciated her honesty and sincerity, and it was neat to see and understand the entire picture of her life as an actress. Even while we were talking with her, she was drinking this healthy oatmeal shake. I found it really interesting when she explained the task of taping scenes TWICE in Cosita Rica ( I don't know why I didn't think of this- since Maria and Veronica are twins after all). She spent a lot of time explaining how the cast members in scenes with the twins would dread having to tape scenes twice, but I'm sure it was just as exhausting for her to tape these scenes over and over and over again (playing Maria a couple of times, and then Veronica). Switching gears back and forth is not an easy task, and Marisa was able to successfully play that role.

Thank you, Marisa, for speaking with our class! You kept us laughing the entire time.

  1. I have to absolutely agree with you Caroline! That day was one of my favorite class we have had this semester, don't get me wrong I have truly loved coming to every single one of our classes, but this one toped the charts! I had literally told every single one of my friends that day about our skype conversation with her and how fabulous of not only an actress she is but a down to earth person as well! They all thought I was a little crazy, but I thought it was so cool! I think that we are so fortunate that we are able to have conversations with such talented people, and it really opens up my mind to the pure talent they posses but how great of people the are as well. Its so fascinating to hear personal stories and every day encounters that these people go through in the telenovella world. I have loved learning about the telenovelas but it makes it all the more interesting getting to hear about first hand experiences from those that are apart of this entertainment world. So again thank you to all of the talented people we have spoken to us, you have all truly enriched my understanding of telenovellas that much more and have made me even more obsessed with them!

  2. Marisa Roman was so funny! Despite the fact that she is basically the Cameron Diaz of Venezuela, she seems so down to earth and so genuine, which is very rare for a celebrity. Also, it seemed like she really enjoyed talking to us, which also shows how humble she is. This day was most definitely one of my favorite days in class.

  3. I completely agree with y'all! Skyping with Marisa was definitely the highlight of my semester. She was so sincere and down to earth. I felt like she was one of our friends already! If she ever visits Dr. A in Athens again, I really want to meet her!

  4. Right on all counts, Marisa is even more awesome than I could have imagined, so bummed we didn't get to meet her in person. I cannot believe someone who has probably gotten star treatment for half of her life can still be so genuine. Her energy and enthusiasm were on an enitirely different level than our other "visitors", which I mean as a testament to her and not an insult to them, because I really enjoyed them too. Now I can understand how she is able to pull off such a variety of roles with such success. One of my favorite parts of that class period was the anecdote Dr. A told us about her playing in the Olympic fountains and celebrating her anonymity, I thought that story just made her that much more authentic and really shows the kind of person people can fall in love with on and off the screen. I know I have :)

  5. Scott, I couldn't have said it any better!

Having Marisa just come chat and giggle and drink her oatmeal like no big felt as if we were talking to an old friend, not skyping a SUPER FAMOUS celeb. She connected instantly with our class, joking and playing around. It's no wonder that her characters are always a hit; she has that incredible way of making a genuine connection with her audiences, as well as a focus that anchors her, fully present, in the moment to enjoy the ride. Her joy was simply infectious.

  6. I think as a class, we can all collectively agree that Marisa is the coolest celeb in the world! After our Skype session with her, I visited her twitter account and saw that she tweeted about our class and how excited she was to have spoken with us. Her humility is something I will always remember and I often find myself googling her just to find out more about her (i swear I'm not a stalker). But I would seriously love to have the chance to meet her because she seems like the perfect best friend! When Dr. A told us that Marisa thought the dorms on campus were cool and that she was mesmerized by our college life, I began to love her even more. She doesn't have the ego of a telenovela star and I think she's amazing because of that. I wish Marisa the best with her career and I hope she decides to make the move to America!

  7. I COMPLETELY agree! She became m favorite actress that day! After skyping with her I proceeded to call my fiancé and talk about how absolutely amazing she is! All i could think about every time Dr. A mentioned when one of her previous classes showed her around was how JEALOUS I was that I had not been in that class! I really truly hope she does make her way to the U.S. again and if so I want to meet her *hint hint Dr. A!*
