All Grown Up

Whilst meeting with my team for our Youth Consumption presentation, some of my teammates and I realized that our telenovelas had more in comon than just their youthful audience. Alma Pirata and Rebelde way were both created by youth media expert, Cris Morena, television and media producer. Not only that, but they also shared many of the same actors, including supermnodel Luisana Lopilato (Allegra, Mia Colucci) and teenage heartthrob Benjamin Rojas (Cruz, Pablo).

Upon seeing each other's clips that we had prepared for our presentation, we realized that Luisana Lopilato was in both our telenovelas. We proceeded to marvel over her quick development from the oversexed teenager of Rebelde Way (there's no way any of us can forget Mia strutting through the school halls in a sports bra and tights to the sound of her own themesong) to a seductive pirate wench in Alma Pirata. In just three years!!! The shock was even greater for me when I realized that Luisana was also one of the protagonists in Chiquititas, the series I was COMPLETELY obsessed with when i was younger!!! It was very weird for me to think that I had grown up watching telenovelas with the same actress in them and not even know it, and even weirder seeing the speedy development of this actress into the person she is today! Needless to say, I will never look at another innocent episode of Chiquititas the same way again.

Thanks, Mia.

PS. Fun Fact: I just found out via my grandmother (she just arrived from Argentina) that Luisana Lopilato and canadian singer Michael Bublé (my mom's favorite musician) got married in Argentina a few days ago. Small world.

  1. I knew that Michael Buble had married an Argentine model, but I didn't know that it was Mia! For me, I was shocked to see how different she looks in the 3 years between Rebelde Way and Alma Pirata. Most adults look pretty similar to their teenage self, but I think Luisana was able to revamp herself from Mia into her other characters because she looks so different. She is pretty lucky in that sense

  2. Wow I also had heard about Michael Buble marrying an Argentine woman (the girls I interned with in Buenos Aires were proud of the engagement)... I had no idea it was Mia! It was interesting for me to see clips from Rebelde Way during your presentation, because in my high school Spanish class we randomly watched episodes of the Mexican remake Rebelde. The character Mia is very similar in Rebelde, but I was shocked to see how young she is in the original Rebelde Way. The actress in Rebelde looked much older, and I can't believe the Argentine actress could strut around half naked at such a young age... it just doesn't seem right! She couldn't have been more than 14 or 15. It's creepy to think she could have been seen as a sex symbol before she probably even had her drivers license.

  3. What a great find! I too was completely blown away by the three images that you all presented of Mia as a child, teen, and adult. I think that maybe this is one of the many draws of a telenovela. Fans are able to see their favorite characters, actors, etc. remade into new ones every couple of years. I too have seen the actors from my telenovela Sin tetas no hay paraíso portraying vastly different characters in other people's telenovelas. I will say that I had one disappointment, however: I hate Michael Bulbe. She could have done SSOOO much better!!! Oh cruel world. I fall in love with Mia, and now this! Que lástima.

  4. Buble! COME ON! Damn't.
5 reasons she shouldn't have married Buble
    1) He is Canadian
    2) His musical career's start included several stints as a singing Santa Claus.
3)He appeared twice in the X-Files, and didn't merit a credit.
    4)He's 35. She's 23. Creep.
    5) His music is unforgivable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBrlYtV60GA

Holla when you come to Luisana, I'm almost 22!
